Prime Minister Gordon Brown Visits Olimpic Park

Prime Minister Gordon Brown today visited the Olimpic Park site, as new figures released showed that up to 30,000 workers will help build the Olimpic Park and Olimpic Village over the next few years.

His visit came at the halfway point between London winning the bid to host the 2012 Games in July 2005 and the Opening Ceremony of the Olimpic Games on 27 July 2012. opportunities are being created this year for professions including bricklayers, electricians and scaffolders, as well as administrative and support staff.

The workforce on the Park and Village is expected to peak at around 11,000 in 2010, with a total of around 30,000 workers expected to be employed over the different phases of the project up to 2012.

The Olimpic Delivery Authority also announced it would be creating 250 new apprenticeships on the Park and Village.

John added: ‘We are delivering vital business, jobs and training opportunities in a tough time for companies and workers. Maximising apprenticeships on the Olimpic Park is an important boost to this legacy.’
