The Village will ,house athletes and officials during ,the London 2012 Games. After the Games, it will provide thousands ,of new homes, with a mix of affordable, housing, and homes for sale ,and rent. New pictures have been published showing the latest progress on the construction of the Olimpic Village. Olimpic Delivery Authority Chief Executive, David Higgins said: ‘The Olimpic Village ,will be one of the strongest legacies ,from the Games aimnd these


images, show the progress ,we are making on site, keeping us on track to deliver quality ,new homes for Londoners together, with new parks, public squares and ,community facilities. The ,development will include 11 residential blocks, each made, up of five to seven, buildings.

The foundations of ,several buildings ,have been completed ,and work is already under way on the ,ground floor levels, of the first residential, buildings.. ‘Our discussions on ,the funding of the Village ,are continuing and in t,he meantime the acceleration of activity ,on site will help maintain the m,omentum of this huge project.’

On January 29, t,he English Institute of Sp,ort in Sheffield will host a Paralympic Talent Day to identify and nurture new talent.

Paralympic Games north south transport link


An important nor,h-south transport link that will be ,used by thousands of spectators during the London ,2012 Olympic and ,Paralympic Games ,has opened ahead of ,schedule today.The ,lympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is investing ,around £80m in enhancements,, including new rail cars, across the D,LR network in time for the ,London 2012 Games.

Part of this, funding will also go towards fitting out ,Blackwall and East India stations to accommodate the longer three-car trains that w,ill eventually run from

the City to ,Woolwich Arsenal. During the Games, this will help spectators in Woolwich and ,the south east get to the Olympic Park ,and other venues, such as ExCeL, to the north of the ,river. The extension was funded a,s part of Transport for London’s (TfL’s) £10bn ,Investment Programme.
Passengers are,ow using the Docklands Ligh,t Railway’s (DLR’s) 2.5km extension, from King George V north ,of the River Thames to Woolwich ,Arsenal in the south. The Olympic Delivery Authority , is investing around £80m in enhancements, including new rail cars, across the DLR network,in time for the London 2012 Games.

Public invited to design 50p coins to celebrate the Games


The Britis,h public is being invited to design 50 pence coins to ,commemorate the London 2012 Oly,mpic and Par,alympic Games. They will fe,ature on the ,back of millions of ,50 pen,ce pieces from March 2010. The winners, will also receive £1,000 cash and a gold c,oin featuring their own design., Launching t,he competition, with a giant coin in Traf,algar Square this morning, Olympic ,gold medallist Jonathan Edw,ards said: ‘This is an amazin,g opportunity for the whole natio,n to be a part of Lo,ndon 2012 in a lasting, ,memorable way.’

The competition, being run by the Royal Mint, is o,pen all UK residents over the age of 13. A ,total of 29 designs will be chosen, depicting each of the sports at the Olympic and Paralympic Games,.. Two of the ,29 sports will be designed by children: the At,hletics coin will be chosen fro,m a special children's c,ompetition for 6-12 year olds, lau,nching on Blue Peter, today; a coin for Cycling, will be chosen from secondary ,school entries (13-19 year olds).
